Images with links

HumanCell .org
I'd like to add an image with a link so that when the image is clicked
it'll visit the link and not the image page.  So far I can only see
how to add a caption containing a link in but this isn't really what
I'm after.  Can someone point me in the right direction...

Would like to add something like:

[[Image:Westminstpalace.jpg|[http://this.is.the.url.visited.when.image.is.clicked]|This
is the caption]]

Apologies if this is obvious.

It's not obvious because it's not supported in MediaWiki at the
moment. It is an active feature request, and one of our developers has
assigned himself the task, but I've no idea how far progressed that
is, if at all.

HumanCell .org
Thanks Rob, Puzzlet.  Just the job.  Hope this makes it into 1.6.

This is often asked for, but AFAIK, you simply cannot do it in MW
through 1.5.5.

It gets brought up so often, they've gotta be thinking about it. Have
you checked bugzilla to see if it's listed, and if so, what its
status is?

:::: I see and admire your manner of living, your warm houses, your
extensive fields of corn, your gardens, your cows, oxen, work-horses,
wagons, and a thousand machines, that I know not the use of. I see
that you are able to clothe yourself, even from weeds and grass. In
short you can do almost what you choose. You whites possess the power
of subduing almost every animal to your use. You are surrounded by
slaves. Everything about you is in chains, and you are slaves
yourselves. I hear I should exchange my presents for yours. I too
should become a slave. Talk to my sons, perhaps they may be persuaded
to adopt your fashions, or at least to recommend them to their sons;
but for myself, I was born free, was raised free, and wish to die
free. -- Big Soldier, 1820 ::::

Re: Re: Images with links

Hans Voss
Well, it is possible to kind of hack around it. The Dutch Wikipedia
(nl.wikipedia.org) implements something like that on the home page.

BE ADVISED that - as far as I recall - the Dutch wikipedia has HTML
enabled (which is required to get this working.).

It uses several HTML <DIV> statements to overlay an empty-looking link
(like [[linkhere|  ]]) over the actual image (without any caption).
They use a template with a fixed layout. On my own personal wiki I
have parameterised (?) the template so that I can set the size of the
picture (must be rectangular tho'.

Cheers, Hans.
