Logs are down

יגאל חיטרון
Hi. It looks wrong, at least for me, and it will take hours until somebody
will pay attention in tab, so I write here.

The sql log tables are dead. In many wikis. Each one in different time.
Enwiki yesterday 17:50, hewiki today moring, ruwiki today evening. I'm 98%
sure it's wrong. 1% it's always like that and I didn't know, and 1% it's
done in purpose. I filed T175487.
Thank you.
Igal

Just posting because originally i thought you meant special:log on wiki
which sounded really bad. To avoid confusion this is actually about high
replication (around a day) on tool labs.

If the problem was real logs, I would tag a lot of people in the phab
ticket, don't worry.

However, this does not seem to be a followable logic for me. I think, most
of us understand you better, if you definitely tell, what you are speaking
about.

Hi. I think you missed that. I started from "The sql log tables are dead".
It shows exactly where is the problem.

The criticism that you are receiving is that you didn't specify *which* log
tables in your email. It turns out you meant the replicas in Toolforge, but
your original message was so vague that it could easily have been
indicating a problem in the Beta Cluster or on the production wikis.

In general, it's best to say explicitly what you're talking about instead
of assuming people will somehow know it.

Re: Logs are down

יגאל חיטרון
The problem is I have no idea what is Toolforge and what is Beta Cluster.
And I never thought there is more than one option. If I would know, of
cause, I whould give all the details.

Re: Logs are down

Moriel Schottlender-2
I think this can be solved easily if you just add the URL of what you're
looking at when you send an email or report such things.

This will help everyone understand the context even if you aren't aware of
all the other products or tools that we have.
You need to understand that sending an email saying that any sort of logs
or sql tables are down makes people very very concerned, especially during
a weekend. It is common courtesy to add the context, to make sure people
don't jump in panic over the wrong problem. And it will be beneficial to
actually solving the problem you report - because people will be able to
look into the correct problem, rather than wondering if you mean something
else that you might not be aware exist.

Just add the link you're looking at, that should solve at least some of the
confusion for the future :)

(It's also a good idea in general to anyone reporting an issue, be it here
or in Phabricator, and will save developers a lot of time trying to find
the issue themselves)
