Something really needs to be done to Meta

Alex Schenck
I'm going to be blunt. Meta right now totally sucks.

We need to do something about Meta. It COULD be a very useful resource as it
once was, but the current state that it is in is totally unacceptable. It's
uncategorized, unorganized, mostly unutilized, and is not used the way it's
supposed to be.

Today, I went through about 10% of all Meta articles (by hand) and
categorized them, deleted them, or did things to them that needed to be
done. It's a very good start, but I need help. I'm therefore asking for that
help.

If people would be kind enough to help me out, I would greatly appreciate
it. I want Meta to be usable again.

I'd love to help; maybe something along the lines of a wikiproject page to
get us started, with an outline of what it is you propose to do (that is, an
outline of what you did today, and how best to do it) would help?

I'm all for a project page. There is a *lot* to do, and I think it
might take several days to just organize a starting plan.
That being said, let's get started.

Please stop deleting redirects. Many of these are linked from other
Wikimedia projects, and removing them is not helping to make meta more
usable.

Just one example: I would expect the avoid copyright paranoia page to be at
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Avoid_copyright_paranoia (normal en wp
capitalisation), but it's not, which is exactly why the redirect was
needed.

Totally agreed. We need consistent accessibility to documents, and
redirects do not harm.

Second, in my opinion most of meta pages needn't to be categorized -
we can simply forget it. They are enough added a comment "historical",
however I strongly doubt there are many other things we need to do in
urgent, like maintain request pages and archive,  than such
categorization to the souvenirs.

# and as for language categories, they already exists ...

I would like that the patrol function was enabled on Meta. That can help
to discover more easy junk added to meta.
